An idyllic spot next to a pond nestled among fruit trees in an organic coffee plantation. The Lilly Pad is one of several houses on Finca la Querencia, a sustainable homestead farm combining dairy and animal husbandry with aquaculture, organic vegetables, coffee and more. We are located at the end of the road in a private valley, very close yet completely removed from the tourist hustle and bustle of Monteverde.

The Lilly Pad es una de varias casas en Finca la Querencia, una granja sostenible que combina ganadería lechera y cría de animales con acuicultura, vegetales orgánicos, café y más. The Lilly Pad is a compact cottage custom built on three levels, with lots of windows and natural light. The kitchen, dining area and a small sitting area are on the entry level. The living room is down a few stone steps with the sleeping loft above it. Access to the sleeping loft is via a narrow staircase that is built in above bookshelves.

The kitchen has custom made concrete counter tops and sink, and has a new stove and refrigerator. The bathroom has an insulated cement tub and a shower. The solar hot water heater provides a great deal of very hot water. The house has a large walk-in closet and laundry drying greenhouse. There is an outdoor patio overlooking the tilapia pond and surrounded by greenery.

TRANSPORTATION: We strongly recommend that you have a car, preferably one with All-Wheel Drive (AWD). If you do not have a car please contact us so we can help you assess if this is a suitable location for you. While we are not far from Monteverde, the walk to town is a substantial uphill hike, though enthusiastic hikers will find it quite enjoyable. Taxis will come to the farm, but the cost is typically around $20 each way.
TRANSPORTE: Recomendamos encarecidamente que tenga un automóvil, preferiblemente uno con tracción en las cuatro ruedas (AWD). Si no tiene un automóvil, contáctenos para ayudarlo a evaluar si esta es una ubicación adecuada para usted. Aunque no estamos lejos de Monteverde, la caminata al pueblo es una subida considerable, aunque los excursionistas entusiastas la encontrarán bastante agradable. "We stayed and worked remotely for 6 weeks and wish we could have stayed longer. The Lily Pad Casita is a peaceful, bright oasis and the farm is a beautiful and interesting place to explore. Being able to eat from the garden was extremely helpful. We loved greeting the animals and feeding the sheep our compost. We also spent a lot of time birding right from the patio and stargazing at night! As nature lovers who don't mind bugs and big hikes, we didn't have any problems with the rustic nature of the farm and not having a car. We feel so lucky for our experience and for making some wonderful friends — we'll be back to this special place!"
"I stayed at Murtha's airbnb for a month-long personal writing retreat, and felt inspired and motivated by amazing nature, spectacular vistas, farm animals and veggies picked up in the garden. The cottage, nicely secluded and tastefully decorated provided all the comfort and working space for extended stay. WiFi works well. There was so much to experience on the farm and in its surroundings that I actually was happy not having a car. Did I mention coffee straight from plantation! A superb place for a long stay that offers uniquely inspiring atmosphere!"
"Probably the best Airbnb I've ever stayed at! The scenery is beautiful, the house is amazing and surrounded by nature, there's a huge organic garden in the back yard where you can pick fresh veggies everyday, the wifi is pretty solid and Tim and Murtha are absolutely lovely. I stayed a month and enjoyed it so much I'm planning to return. I recommend this place wholeheartedly."
"I almost didn't want to write this review because I want to keep this perfect place to myself. It truly is one of the best Airbnb experiences we've ever had! The farm is beautifully located in a valley with monkeys in nearby trees. Sheep and cows greet you every time you enter the property. Fresh milk and yogurt, fruit and vegetables from the garden are all available and delicious. The room is clean, spacious, and so comfortable. You almost don't even need to buy tickets to activities since there is already so much to take in and enjoy on the property."
"La Querencia is a magical farm on the top of a hill overlooking what I imagine Heaven looks like. This was definitely the best stop of our Costa Rica adventures. You are tucked away from everything except the cows, sheep, dogs, toucans, monkeys, and other wildlife. The homestead has had a lot of love poured into it and it definitely shows. We were truly enchanted and inspired by what Tim & Murtha created here. I suggest that you ditch the guided tours of the parks and just spend as much time as you can here instead. We saw more wildlife on the farm than on the tour anyway!"
"I stayed at the farm for a longstay and it was magical to say the least. I fell in love with the bathtub. The cottage porch was the perfect place to meditate and study. The sunset was breathtaking. I was able to use the fresh mint and limes on the farm to make an amazing mojito and soak in the beautiful concrete tub at the end of my days. The bed was very comfortable. Tim & Murtha were hands down the most amazing hosts I come across. If you love nature, fresh air, breathtaking sunsets, and fresh farm fruits and herbs then I highly recommend booking this enchanted Airbnb."
